About Us

Technoculture refers to life interwoven with smart phones, computers, internet, apps, social media, games, VR, AR, and other cyber (computer) tech. There's a lot that's great about living amid this technoculture, and a lot that's confusing and distressing. Cyberpunk is a SciFi genre that arose to explore what's great about, and distressing about, the rise of technoculture. Members of the Cyberpunk & Technoculture Club will therefore BE cyberpunks, which is a good thing to be, because cyberpunks know how to navigate and exist meaningfully amid technoculture. This club is based on the idea that it can be fun, helpful, and healthy to talk casually about any of this with others who enjoy this sort of thing. Everyone is welcome, and we hope that the club will attract students of many different majors and interests. Club gatherings will involve conversing on topics agreed upon by the club, watching and discussing relevant films and other visual media, and experiencing virtual reality using Mercy-funded VR tech (we've got an HTC Vive Focus 3, and a gaming laptop with top end hardware).
